Job Description
The UPS Field Service Engineer applies diversified knowledge of the power electronics industry to complete start-up, testing, troubleshooting, operations and maintenance work of UPS and related critical power equipment. The SFSE will be home based and dispatched to customer sites as required.
Specific Duties
Responsible for commissioning, maintaining and providing emergency support on power electronics at customers' sites within the regional coverage areaPerforms commissioning-focused design reviews, prepares commissioning test procedures and reports, coordinates and oversees on-site testingInvolved in preventive maintenance, emergency response, equipment start-up and / or field modificationsAttends periodic training at the company's headquarters on various OEM units and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) which includes testing equipment and / or rebuilding older systemsTroubleshoots issues with the technical-support group related to maintenance or operation of equipmentParticipates in the development of Methods of Procedures (MOPs) and be expected to consult with supervisor(s) concerning unusual problems and developments.Job Requirements
Preferably 3-5+ years experience in the critical power industry and ability to troubleshoot down to component level on equipment such as UPS, batteries, PDU's, STS, etc.Utilizes hand tools and test equipment to perform workRequires excellent verbal, written communication skills & customer relation skillsMust be able to provide high level of quality customer serviceMust be able to complete Field Service Reports in a timely mannerRequires knowledge of equipment manufacturer's specificationsAbility to work independently and exhibit resourcefulnessMust be able to perform repeated bending & lifting of up to 100 lbs. during certain proceduresMust be able to provide necessary pro-active recommendations to clientsCandidate must be willing to work nights & weekends when necessaryKnowledge of general computer hardware & software applicationsPrevious 3rd Party UPS experience a plusUPS OEM factory training or experience in Liebert / Emerson / Vertiv, APC / MGE / Schneider, or Eaton / Powerware, a MUSTTechnical degree a plusPrevious military experience and training a plusEducational Background
Technical graduate of a two-year accredited technical school in an engineering / technical fieldOR Three to five years of technician experience in related power electronics field or industry
