Senior Architect
The Senior Architect position manages the activities of the Design Division, which provides planning, programming, peer review of designs, furniture planning, layouts, and installations, and overall support to the other divisions within the department and the County regarding space allocations, design efforts, and potential future projects.
As the landlord for all facilities owned by Maricopa County, the Facilities Management Department is responsible for the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operations of more than 200 facilities comprised of over 10 million square feet. Facilities Management is made up of a collaborative team that provides and performs various functions to meet the facility-related needs of all Maricopa County Departments. Our broad range of services includes various aspects of the ongoing operations and maintenance of all County-owned facilities, management of all facility projects, and in-house design services.

We require :
Six years of capital design experience and administration, including three years of supervisory / management experienceBachelor's degree in ArchitectureAn equivalent combination of post-secondary education and / or job-related experience may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basisRegistered Architect in the state of Arizona, or registered in another state with the ability to obtain Arizona registration within 45 days of the hire dateMust complete a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), MCSO background investigation, and TOC certification to access County detention facilitiesMust possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hireWe also value :

Execute planning, programming, and design of capital projects, tenant project requests, and major maintenance projects for County departments, taking into consideration project goals, constraints, and the extent of the County's financial and legal obligationsDevelop policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards; ensure consistent compliance by assigned staff and consultantsAct in the capacity of Architect of Record for County-wide designed improvement projects requiring a Registered Architect to stamp and sign drawingsPrepare and present to leadership conceptual plans, test fits, or further design documents in support of the pre-construction process for various capital projectsEvaluate accessibility, ADA, and code compliance issues and provide interpretations; design professional proposals, sit on qualifications-based selection committees, and assist in negotiationsEstablish relationships with planning review authorities and lead meetings to streamline plan review submission, processing, and issuance of permits. Assist project managers with the coordination of deferred submittals, inspections, and obtaining certificates of occupancyDevelop and manage division budget, responsible for expenditures; participate in the budget process; identify staffing, equipment, facilities, and related needs; oversee and / or approve purchases and procurementOversee design peer reviews, including constructability and functional reviewsManage the County's Annual Facilities Permit program for the three main County campusesDevelop and maintain standard technical specifications for the departmentEvaluate materials, finishes, and products for effectiveness, durability, sustainability, and budgetary requirements, ensuring they comply with County standards and industry best practicesEnsure the timely delivery of record drawings and details to support design consultants, Operations and Maintenance staff, and other County departmentsOversee signage designs produced internally and externally to comply with the County's graphic design standardsOther job duties as assignedWorking conditions :
