Job Description

We're seeking a Controls Engineer to join our oil and gas team. You'll be responsible for the design, development, programming, and maintenance of control systems, with a strong focus on Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). This role is crucial for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement control systems for new and existing projects, including hardware selection, system architecture, and wiring diagrams.
  • Develop, program, and debug PLC logic using languages such as Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, and Structured Text.
  • Configure and program Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems to provide operators with a clear view of process conditions.
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades on existing control systems to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including process engineers, operators, and project managers, to ensure the control system meets all operational requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards and safety regulations (e.g., IEC 61508, ISA-84).
  • Provide technical support and training to field technicians and operations staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Controls Engineer, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
  • Proven expertise in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider Electric).
  • Familiarity with various communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, EtherNet / IP, Profibus).
  • Experience with SCADA / HMI development (e.g., Ignition, Wonderware, FactoryTalk View).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) license.
  • Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) like DeltaV or Honeywell.
  • Knowledge of functional safety standards and experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
