About the Role :

The Planning Technician plays a critical role in supporting the development and implementation of land use and zoning policies within the public administration sector. This position is responsible for assisting in the review and analysis of site plans, zoning applications, and surveying data to ensure compliance with local regulations and community standards. The Planning Technician collaborates closely with planners, engineers, and other stakeholders to provide accurate geographic information system (GIS) mapping and data management. By performing detailed plan reviews and maintaining up-to-date records, the technician helps facilitate informed decision-making that promotes sustainable and organized community growth. Ultimately, this role ensures that all planning activities align with legal requirements and contribute to the orderly development of the city located at 13503 Alexander Road, CITYM.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree or certification in planning, surveying, GIS, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, particularly ArcMap.
  • Experience with zoning regulations, site plan review, and land surveying principles.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions required for data entry and map creation without loss of accuracy.
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to apply zoning and planning standards consistently.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Certification as a Planning Technician or GIS Professional (GISP).
  • Experience working within a public administration or municipal planning department.
  • Familiarity with advanced GIS analysis techniques and additional mapping software.
  • Knowledge of local government planning processes and community development practices.
  • Responsibilities :

  • Conduct detailed reviews of zoning applications, site plans, and subdivision proposals to verify compliance with local codes and ordinances.
  • Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, including ArcMap, to create, update, and analyze spatial data relevant to planning projects.
  • Assist in surveying activities by collecting, interpreting, and documenting land and property data to support planning decisions.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports, and maps related to land use, zoning, and development projects.
  • Collaborate with planning staff, developers, and the public to provide technical support and respond to inquiries regarding planning processes and regulations.
  • Perform repetitive tasks such as data entry and map updates with precision and attention to detail.
  • Make rational decisions based on established guidelines and professional judgment to support planning objectives.
  • Skills :
