The Role
We’re hiring a hands-on ASSISTANT CONTROLLER to lead our accounting team through continued growth and transformation. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves leadership role overseeing core accounting functions and building strong financial processes that support a complex, multi-unit retail operation.
You’ll manage a team of 3–5 direct reports (Accounting Manager, Staff Accountant, 842 Lease Accountant), plus oversee a broader finance and accounting group of 11 (including 3 contractors). This role partners closely with the CFO and will work cross-functionally with operations, FP&A, and HR. You will also interact with our private-equity sponsor, Atlantic Street Capital.
What You’ll Do
- Own the Month-End Close : Lead timely, accurate financial closes with accountability for journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Lead Accounting Operations : Oversee AP, AR, GL, and financial systems; ensure strong internal controls.
- Inventory & Retail Focus : Manage complex inventory processes across hundreds of store locations; experience in retail accounting is a must.
- Financial Reporting & Compliance : Deliver insightful monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting to internal stakeholders and private equity partners.
- ERP Expertise : Utilize NetSuite and MI9 (inventory system) for transaction integrity, reporting accuracy, and ongoing process optimization.
- Audit & Tax : Lead external audits (including 401(k)) and ensure compliance across sales tax, personal property, franchise, and income taxes.
- Team Development : Mentor and develop a high-performing team with a strong focus on process improvement and scalability.
- Process Improvement : Drive automation and technology adoption to create efficiencies in reporting, controls, and transaction processing.
- Strategic Partnership : Support budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning with the FP&A function and executive team.
Requirements : What you will bring
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership roleStrong retail background with experience managing inventory-heavy accountingCPA preferred; Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field requiredHands-on ERP experience (NetSuite required; MI9 a plus)Experience working in private equity-backed or multi-unit organizationsExcellent communication, leadership, and analytical skillsA roll-up-your-sleeves attitude and a passion for developing othersLocation near Plano, TX; ability to be in-office occasionally for critical periods (month-end, etc.)Why Join Lori’s Gifts?
