ER RN Travel Nursing Job Details
Location : Newport News, VA 23602 (Virginia healthcare jobs)
Facility Setting : Emergency Department (20 beds, 15 monitor beds, 5 fast track rooms)
Employment Type : Travel Registered Nurse (ER RN)
Shift : 12-hour nights
Hours per Week : 36
Assignment Duration : 13 weeks (Start : 09 / 08 / 2025 – End : 12 / 06 / 2025)
Schedule : Every other weekend and holiday required
Unit Features : Primary Stroke Center, Cath Lab, staffed with experienced ED nurses and techs
Estimated Weekly Salary : $1780 - $1910 per week ER Registered Nurse Qualifications
Active RN License in Virginia or compact state (required for Virginia nursing jobs)
Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department RN experience (required)
BLS, ACLS, CPI, and PALS certifications (required for ER nurse jobs)
Successful completion of dysrhythmia exam at orientation (study guide provided)
Experience in triage and willingness to serve as charge nurse
Recent Emergency Department or Critical Care nursing experience (preferred)
EPIC EHR experience (preferred)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
No local candidates (must reside over 50 miles from facility) Key Responsibilities for Emergency Department RN
Deliver, coordinate, and evaluate patient care for a diverse population in a high-acuity ER setting
Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments, develop care plans, and monitor treatment outcomes
Administer medications safely, following hospital policies and nursing best practices
Coordinate patient care with hospital departments and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
Advocate for patient safety and participate in quality improvement initiatives
Manage triage, stabilization, and crisis intervention in emergency situations
Collaborate with EMS, law enforcement, and protective services as needed
Apply evidence-based practices and maintain professional standards in all aspects of care
Support patients and families through acute illness and injury
Demonstrate resilience and adaptability in high-stress ER environments
