JOB TITLE : Development Manager - Grants

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP : Reports to the Development Director

POSITION OVERVIEW : The Grants Manager is responsible for strengthening and implementing fundraising efforts connected to the mission and vision of the organization. The Grants Manager works closely with the Assistant Development Director, Development Director, Development Team, CEO, Marketing Team, Board of Directors, Volunteers, and Operation Kindness Staff to raise sustainable revenue through fundraising efforts.

The Grants Manager is a member of the Development Team and is a liaison between Operation Kindness and Foundations and Grant Providers. The Grants Manager is responsible for researching, preparing, submitting, and managing grant proposals and reports that support agency goals and meet funder guidelines and criteria. The Grant Manager serves as the primary grant writer, manages funder relationships and expectations, engages in compliance reporting, and supports special project initiatives. The position is responsible for supporting efforts that meet or exceed the fundraising goals established by the Development Director and the CEO of Operation Kindness.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Grant proposal development and submission, preparing and organizing materials for proposals and submitting and monitoring grant applications.
  • Research new funding and development opportunities on a local and state level.
  • Maintain and build relationships with funders and other strategic partners on a local and state level.
  • Draft proposals and letters of interest, grant application narratives, budgets, and collaborate to finalize with Director of Development, Leadership, Program Staff, Finance, and the CEO.
  • Submit grant applications via paper or online portals and maintain list of passwords.
  • Meet with funders and establish strong relationships to explore funding opportunities and schedule visits to the shelter.
  • Maintain a master calendar of grants and prospects.
  • Maintain a library of grant support documents including resumes, bios, IRS forms, Board / staff diversity lists, etc.
  • Execute thank you letters and facilitate grant contracts and agreements.
  • Ensure acknowledgment of funders via website, e-newsletter, and social media as outlined in grant requirements and agreements.
  • Maintain grant compliance and reporting which includes outcome measurement and grant budgets.
  • Monitor and maintain funder and investor reporting schedules and requirements.
  • Tracking progress toward organizational and programmatic outcomes and goals.
  • Draft compelling progress reports to funders that fully capture programmatic success.
  • Assemble all necessary supporting materials and documents including budget reports, outcome measurements, success stories, etc.
  • Submit reports to funders that outline the success of the programs and funding.
  • Performance expectations : Securing or exceeding $2 million in grand funding

Team Responsibilities

  • Meet the fundraising goal as established by the Director of Development and the CEO.
  • Collaborate amongst all members of the team, CEO, and Board of Directors to maximize revenue.
  • Achieve and exceed revenue goals outlined and accomplish tasks in Development Plan.
  • General Responsibilities

  • Reports suspicion of animal abuse or neglect to any Manager or above immediately.
  • Report any unsafe working conditions to any Manager or above immediately.
  • Follows SOPs and other safety regulations at all times .
  • Completes all necessary and requested training in a timely manner in accordance with shelter policy.
  • Attends staff meetings .
  • Participates in shelter events as requested by Supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as requested other duties as requested or assigned.
  • POSITION REQUIREMENTS :

    Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in social services, marketing, business management, or other related area or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of non-profit grant writing experience.
  • Personal Requirements

  • Feels and expresses a genuine liking for animals and for working in an animal care environment.
  • Supports Operation Kindness’s mission and understands how it is organized and functions as a non-profit organization.
  • Exceptional written communication skills.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in MS applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Publisher.
  • Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong oral communications skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
  • Knowledge of and / or experience with animal welfare organizations desired.
  • Is able to work equally well with paid staff members, clients and volunteers.
  • Is able to relate well to persons with varied backgrounds and beliefs.
  • Has a positive attitude; is open to new ideas.
  • Physical Effort : Position requires sitting or standing for extended periods of time and speaking over the telephone.
  • Working Conditions : May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches, and animal diseases.
