Upper School Science Faculty (Seattle WA)
Full Time (1.0 FTE 3 sections of chemistry and 1 section of biology) Salary / Exempt
Long-term Substitute position (January 26 to March 27 with possible extension to May 12)
The Bush School is in search of an individual to join our Upper School team as an Upper School Science Faculty member. We are seeking a candidate who will support the schools mission of diversity and inclusion and who has a background that displays and proves an understanding of cultural fluency. We are building a team in which diversity of experiences backgrounds and talents are valued in order to work with a diverse community of students faculty staff and families. The Upper School Science Faculty member reports to the Upper School Director and works closely with students and families as well as Upper School Faculty and Staff and the Science Department. This position will be responsible for teaching three sections of introductory chemistry and one section of introductory biology for the duration of the engagement.
While other duties may be assigned a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks listed below :
Create and sustain a positive classroom culture based on the mission and values of the school
Plan prepare and deliver instructional activities for Upper School science courses that facilitate active learning experiences in a student-driven inquiry-based manner. Preparation is done in conjunction with co-teachers and with existing curriculum.
Value and incorporate diverse perspectives in daily interactions and within the curriculum
Establish classroom expectations that create a safe and comfortable environment for all students
Create and sustain effective family partnerships for example : communicate with parents / guardians regarding student progress and classroom news via formal spring conferences written communications and school portal
Observe / evaluate / assess students development and maintain accurate records regarding student progress and areas of growth
Attend and chaperone school related events outside the scheduled school day
Participate actively and with curiosity in school / division / department / committee meetings as well as student community gatherings during the school day
Collaborate with school counselors and learning specialists to plan lessons curriculum materials and resources to effectively serve students with different learning profiles and mental health needs
Collaborate with other members of the science faculty to create common experiences centered on student inquiry
Utilize technology to support student success (e.g. Google Docs Blackbaud Canvas etc.)
Conscientiously complete other duties as assigned
Experience and Professional Competencies :
Experience teaching science is required with 3 or more years preferred
A bachelors degree is required with a science major or related subject area preferred
A graduate degree in science education or related field preferred

Additional Requirements :
Have a current Adult and Children CPR First Aid and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date)
Meet the schools standards when completing two separate background screenings

Compensation / Benefit Information for this position :
Salary Range : $12153-$22074
Faculty employees with a Masters degree PhD and / or National Certification may be eligible for additional compensation
