Lead Linux Administrator
Attention experienced Linux Administrators! We are looking for a Lead Linux Admin to join a project with the Department of Energy. This is a fully remote role! Experience managing a team and maintaining security services are desired.
Responsible for unique or complex information systems and / or information technology projects across more than one discipline, such as application support, database administration, software quality assurance / quality control, software engineering, network telecommunications, and infrastructure operations of administration, analysis, engineering and design. Provides direction to other IT Administrators on the project in a senior administrator capacity. Considered a technical specialist in a variety of IT administrator disciplines.
Manage a team of Linux and Windows Administrators responsible for the planning, implementation, and managing of critical systems.
Provide team members with clear direction, guidance, and coaching to maintain up time of critical systems.
Communicate with internal and external teams regarding projects, tasks, issues, statuses and achievements.
Create and manage the upkeep of documentation to include standard operating procedures and technical reviews.
Maintain information security policies and procedures and ensuring system-wide compliance of critical infrastructure.
Onboarding and training new team members.
Working with other teams to integrate Linux systems with existing infrastructure and new technologies.
Maintain and troubleshoot Linux systems on a day-to-day basis.
Integrate Linux Systems (RHEL 8 / 9) into a primary Windows environment (workstations & servers) where authentication, authorization, and accounting activities are controlled by Active Directory with CA PAM.
Provide administrative access based on group security, applied with least privilege and other permission access management techniques.
Ensure patches are maintained across a diverse Linux environment (e.g., RHEL 8 / 9, CentOS, Oracle Linux, etc.) in a heavily automated manner, where possible.
Configure new Linux systems for customer use and ensure that initial configurations meet required enterprise baselines & controls (e.g., proper agents installed, proper configs, etc.).
Ensure that already-provisioned Linux systems are kept in compliance with baseline requirements & ever-changing enterprise policy (e.g., equivalent to Group Policy in the Windows realm for ongoing compliance updates).
Develop an operating system lifecycle plan with integration of DoD STIGs and other recommended security standards.
Integrate Linux systems with other enterprise tooling (e.g., ACAS, Splunk, SevOne, Backup systems, etc.).
Monitor all solutions integrated via a centralized alerting system (SevOne).
Certify log management and forwarding to a single repository (Splunk).
