SUMMARY

Provides strategic direction and comprehensive management support for all physician and staff coding programs and operations at Atrius Health. Manages the day-to-day activities of coding functions within the Coding Department. Serves as the primary coding expert and resource for the organization. Develops a strategy and executes a comprehensive coding strategy and process to improve the capture of all billable charges, maximize reimbursement, optimize risk diagnosis coding, and ensure coding review and workflows are according to coding compliance. Oversees, support and documentation of coding related questions from providers and business staff. Reviews Ingenix (claims scrubber software) data and insurer denials to ensure reimbursement maximization.

EDUCATION / LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent education, training, or experience) required. Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or other related professional billing / coding (not hospital billing) certification required.

EXPERIENCE

7 – 10 years’ professional experience that includes 5-7 years of coding and compliance experience and 3 years of supervisory experience required.

In-depth knowledge of coding, medical terminology, billing operations and computer systems required.

Experience with an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) required.

Must have firsthand knowledge of current health care coding issues and must be familiar with professional billing and coding rules within a general, multi-specialty physician group practice required.

Ability to work remotely required.

SKILLS

Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and presentation skills essential.

Must possess the ability to present and explain complex material to physicians and other providers in a non-confrontational manner.

Strong PC skills in word processing, database, and presentation applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.) required.

Strong skills in the use of the Internet required.
