We are seeking a Psychiatric Technician Senior to join our team in Nampa , Idaho. SHW is a 16-bed Adolescent Psychiatric Treatment Hospital serving youth ages 12-17. Our facility is located on a beautiful campus situated between Ridgecrest and Centennial golf courses along the I-84 corridor. State Hospital West provides inpatient psychiatric treatment for Idaho’s adolescents experiencing the most serious and persistent mental health challenges. We partner closely with families and communities to support successful transitions back to home and community living. SHW is accredited by The Joint Commission and certified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
About the Role
The Psychiatric Technician Senior helps maintain a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for adolescents receiving inpatient psychiatric care. In this role, you will :
Support the implementation of individual treatment plansMonitor and document patient progress toward treatment goalsFacilitate structured therapeutic activities that promote stabilization, recovery, and independenceContribute to a positive, engaged, and therapeutic environment for patientsThis position requires employees to obtain certifications in CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (training provided).
Employees may be required to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts, including day, swing, and night shifts.
The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is a drug-free workplace. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES :
Direct and monitor the work of Psychiatric Technicians who provide therapeutic services including patient safety and security, therapeutic activities, and group therapy sessions.Complete staff observations and manage staff performance including completing annual evaluations.Implement treatment plans and monitor patient progress toward goals.Observe and document signs of mental / physical illness, treatment responses, hygiene, behaviors, and interactions.Take and record patient vital signs and follow nursing care procedures.Assist in admitting and discharging patients.Incumbents may be assigned to especially high-risk patients where specialized training is required to effectively de-escalate situations.Frequently perform tasks that require you to bend, push and pull wheeled and other items, twist and squat, use both left and right arms, use right and left hands and wrists, and reach above your shoulders. In addition, you must be able to lift up to 50 pounds while performing the above-mentioned tasks, and you may be required to pursue clients to ensure safety.Orient new employees to support their development into competent, confident, and high-quality team members.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Some knowledge of human services to include psychology, nursing, or social work. Typically gained by at least 1 year as a Psychiatric Technician OR one year of work experience in dual diagnosis, behavioral interventions, mental health disorders and medications, psychiatric symptoms or therapeutic communications AND completion of three related college courses.Experience with behavior management for individuals diagnosed with mental illness and developmental disabilities. Typically gained by at least two years of work experience completing behavioral assessments and / or mental health scales, analyzing behavior and its function and developing or assisting in developing behavior support plans OR at least one year of work experience as listed above AND successful completion of at least six credits of upper-division college coursework in psychology or special education.Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants.
Some knowledge of supervisory practices. Typically gained by completion of a class or seminar (of more than 1 day) specifically covering supervisory practices or the elements of supervision; OR completion of a college-level personnel related course covering supervisory practices; OR lead work experience that involved work assignment, direction, and monitoring of staff (such experience on a fill-in basis is non-qualifying unless for a period equivalent to a minimum of three months or more - they do not have to be consecutive months).Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate.Learn About a Career with DHW
