Job Title : Phlebotomist - BaltimoreJob Description
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, and explaining the venipuncture blood drawing process to patients clearly and courteously.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens.
Record maintenance data and decontaminate workspaces.
Update patient information as needed.
Demonstrate venipuncture techniques using straight or butterfly needles.
Understand and follow physicians' orders accurately.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match scripts 100% correctly.
Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
Follow specific protocols for specimen transport to maintain integrity.
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
Experience with venipuncture and handling hard sticks.
Proficient in specimen processing and working with geriatric patients.
Ability to handle 20-30 sticks per day.
Customer service skills.
Experience using straight needles and butterfly needles.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with hard sticks or geriatric patients is a must.
High school diploma or GED required.
Work Environment
The phlebotomist will work in a medium-sized Patient Service Center (PSC) located in Baltimore City. The role requires interaction with cancer patients, pre-op patients, drug users, and geriatric patients. Experience with hard sticks is essential. The work environment involves standing for most of the shift.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Baltimore, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00 / hr.
