About the Role

The Company is in search of a Vice President of Development to play a pivotal role in advancing its philanthropic mission. This senior leadership position is responsible for providing strategic vision and direction for all fundraising activities, with a focus on securing transformative major and planned gifts. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and experienced leader, adept at mentoring a team, and with a proven track record in fundraising, particularly in the higher education and nonprofit sectors. Core responsibilities include developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies, leading a small development team, and working closely with the President & Director and the Board of Trustees to meet annual and multi-year fundraising goals. Candidates for the Vice President of Development role at the company should be passionate about the humanities and possess a collaborative, empowering, and curious mindset. A bachelor's degree is required, with a master's degree preferred, and a minimum of 10 years of successful experience in development. The role demands exceptional communication skills, the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, and a strong background in leadership, team management, and budget operations. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to close significant gifts, be proficient in CRM systems, and have a strategic approach to fundraising. Experience in leading a capital campaign and a growth-oriented mindset are also desirable.
