Job Summary :

The person in this role must possess knowledge of scientifically based research in reading and literacy practices, early literacy development, and instructional expertise in the prevention and remediation of reading difficulties to :

  • Deliver targeted literacy interventions to meet the specific needs of identified learners.
  • Assess and monitor progress to inform instruction and grouping decisions.
  • Support literacy-rich learning environments in collaboration with teachers, families, and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned) :

  • Provide small group, out-of-grade-level (Tier III) instruction tailored to learners below grade level and in need of foundational literacy skill development.
  • Use evidence-based strategies and explicit, systematic, and cumulative literacy instruction to address skill gaps.
  • Integrate vocabulary development and knowledge-building content to support language comprehension.
  • Administer screeners and diagnostic assessments to identify foundational literacy needs for targeted instruction.
  • Monitor learner progress frequently, adjust instruction based on data, and make data-driven grouping and regrouping decisions.
  • Maintain detailed records of learner performance to track growth and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to align intervention goals with core curriculum.
  • Participate in Child Study Team meetings and parent-teacher conferences, as requested.
  • Partner with teachers to ensure coherence between core and intervention instruction.
  • Foster a love of reading with engaging, level-appropriate texts and activities.
  • Model effective reading strategies and encourage learner self-monitoring and metacognition.
  • Meet regularly with teachers to discuss intervention progress, data, and strategies.
  • Partner with families to support literacy development at home through resources and communication.
  • Build positive and cohesive working relationships with administration, grade-level teams, specialists, and interventionist colleagues.
  • Attend district and site trainings, professional learning, and professional development sessions.
  • Support site-based professional learning sessions as requested (e.g., analyzing data, organizing literacy centers, implementing small group strategies).
  • Stay informed on changes to federal, state, county, and district statutes, rules, and policies and determine next steps as needed.
  • Knowledge and Skills :

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, and district statutes, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of essential elements of literacy instruction, foundational reading skills, and intervention practices.
  • Ability to model and articulate effective literacy instructional practices.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of data analysis and its application to instructional decision-making.
  • Proficiency in integrating technology to support differentiation, engagement, and achievement.
  • Minimum Qualifications :

  • Valid Arizona teaching certificate.
  • K–8 or K–12 Reading Specialist Endorsement.
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience OR any equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
  • Other Requirements :

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Ability to pass fingerprint and background checks.
  • May be required to work outside normal working hours.
  • May be required to travel to perform work functions.
