Your Specific Responsibilities :

Consults with and provides technical assistance to County Health Departments and other state, local or federal agencies regarding indoor air quality issues. Collaborates with state and federal agencies in developing environmental standards for the mitigation or minimization of human health impact from exposure to indoor air contaminants. Serve as Department liaison to other agencies, organizations and community groups. Responds to indoor air phone and email inquiries from citizens, partners and stakeholders.

Develops and presents technical papers, informative seminars, and public presentations on radon and indoor air toxics. Performs outreach to inform partners and stakeholders of ongoing and emerging program related issues using routine outreach methods (webinars, teleconferences and emails). Prepares or updates guideline or informational documents for public dissemination relevant to indoor environmental quality and public health such as mold, carbon monoxide, indoor marijuana-grow operations, clandestine drug labs or corrosive drywall.

Provides interpretation of pertinent public health statutes, rules, policies and standards. Reviews technical documents, research proposals, proposed regulations and regulation changes including policies and procedures of indoor air quality and environmental issues for evaluation and recommendations. Reviews and provides detailed analyses of proposed legislation on indoor air issues regarding potential impacts to DOH, public health, local governments, and the public in general.

The Florida Department of Health is seeking an Environmental Consultant to join the Bureau of Environmental Health, Public Health Toxicology section. This is a highly responsible position performed under the general supervision of the Environmental Administrator.

This highly technical position is responsible for addressing public health risks regarding chemical, physical and biological agents in the indoor environments. To educate and inform the public about the health risks of indoor air quality issues related to mold, dampness, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, heavy metals, asbestos, pests, radon, etc. To educate and inform the public on minimizing exposure to infectious aerosols inside buildings through ventilation, air cleaning and source control. Employee must possess a strong background in collecting, managing and analyzing scientific data. The employee must be skilled in communicating the relationship between hazards and risks associated with indoor air pollutants to the public.

Assists with radon outreach activities (presentations and / or exhibiting at conferences and trade shows).

Performs building assessments to identify potential hazards to human health related to indoor air pollution, evaluating data on pathways, sources, and driving forces. Prepare technical reports on results of building indoor air quality assessments for publication by the agency.

Serves as a member of the state radiological emergency response team. Available on a 24-hour-a-day basis for responding to radiation and indoor air toxicology related incidents and emergencies.
