Warden Position
Columbus Consolidated Government is offering a full-time regular position for a Warden in the Muscogee County Prison. The salary is $100,000.00 annually, and the location is Columbus, GA.
The position is open continuously since April 30, 2025.
The major duties and responsibilities include :
- Assisting the Warden in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the prison.
- Assuming responsibility for operation of the prison in the absence of the Warden.
- Overseeing the provision of inmate security.
- Investigating rule violations and charges against inmates and officers.
- Ensuring that personnel adhere to state and department rules and regulations.
- Attending required seminars and training sessions.
- Supervising and scheduling the work of institute employees.
- Organizing search parties in the event of an escape.
- Ensuring that all areas relating to security are ready for inspection by the state.
- Performing daily inspections of the isolation area and the rest of the prison.
- Ensuring that disciplinary reports and procedures are carried out in compliance with GDC regulations.
- Holding regular supervisor meetings.
- Disciplining subordinates as necessary.
- Authorizing inmates to participate in detail; monitoring outside details.
- Performing background checks and conducting interviews for new applicants for employment.
- Giving CERT team directions.
- Performing other related job duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include :
Knowledge of modern corrections practices and procedures.Knowledge of the criminal justice system.Knowledge of state Department of Corrections guidelines and federal, state, and local laws related to the incarceration of persons.Skill in assessing situations with accuracy and speed.Skill in the use of self-defense techniques and equipment.Skill in interpersonal relations.Skill in oral and written communication.Minimum educational and training requirements include a Bachelor's Degree in Correctional or Security Management, Criminal Justice, Public or Business Administration, or related field. A Master's Degree is preferred. Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive responsibility within the field of corrections to include five (5) years in a supervisory management capacity. This position is required to supervise state inmate labor. Employee must be P.O.S.T. certified. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Employees in the pension plan must meet both age and years of service requirements to qualify for retirement. The current vesting period is ten years, and the current pension contribution rate is 8% of your gross salary.
