Staffing Inc is partnered with a client in Grand Rapids, MI who is actively looking to hire a qualified individual as Cable Technician. The ideal candidate is responsible for installing our product suite; specifically, low-voltage cables and systems for electronic equipment and communication devices. The Structured Cabling Technician will review customer requirements along with blueprints and schematics to configure the system and connect the cables safely and accurately.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, and test copper and fiber optic cabling systems according to industry standards and project specifications.
- Perform cable pulling, routing, and dressing within ceilings, walls, and floors to ensure proper installation and organization.
- Mount and secure cable supports, trays, and conduits to facilitate cable runs and maintain compliance with building codes.
- Install and configure network equipment such as switches, access points, and patch panels as required for cabling infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with cabling systems, including connectivity problems, signal loss, and cable damage.
- Repair or replace faulty cabling components, connectors, and terminations to restore functionality and integrity.
- Conduct comprehensive testing and certification of cabling installations using appropriate equipment and procedures.
- Document all work performed, including as-built drawings, test results, and project updates for internal records and client documentation.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other technicians to coordinate installations and ensure timely completion of projects.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to minimize risks and ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others.
- Install data cabinets, TV mounts, phone systems, security cameras, projectors, speakers, and other hardware according to project specifications and manufacturer guidelines.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or coursework in cabling systems preferred.Proven experience in structured cabling installation, including copper and fiber optic cables, in commercial or residential environments.Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, such as ANSI / TIA / EIA and BICSI, governing structured cabling practices.Proficiency in using cable testing and certification tools such as cable testers, OTDRs, and TDRs to verify installation quality and performance.Strong understanding of network infrastructure components, including switches, routers, patch panels, and associated hardware.Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex cabling issues independently.Attention to detail and precision in cable routing, termination, and labeling to maintain organization and facilitate future maintenance.Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with clients, colleagues, and project stakeholders.Ability to work independently or as part of a team, prioritize tasks, and manage time efficiently to meet project deadlines.Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel to job sites as needed.Travel required, including some overnight travelPhysical Requirements :
