Position Summary
The Welder I is an entry- to mid-level role responsible for performing stick welding on steel components and rebar assemblies in FABco's fabrication shop. Welders I work under close supervision to gain proficiency in stick welding techniques, while also developing basic skills in MIG welding and shop safety. The goal of this role is to build a foundation that will allow advancement to Welder II.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform Stick (tack)welding on steel parts, rebar, and fabricated assemblies under supervision
- Assist with basic MIG welding tasks as assigned
- Read and follow basic shop drawings and welding symbols
- Operate welding equipment, grinders, and cutting torches safely and correctly
- Inspect welds for strength and accuracy; correct defects with guidance
- Assist with material handling, positioning, and setup of workpieces
- Maintain welding equipment in proper working order
- Follow company and OSHA safety policies at all times
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Perform other related duties as assigned
