IT Network Engineer

Houston, TX (Clear Lake / League City area)

Full-time, on-site 4–5 days per week

Responsibilities

Design, engineer, harden, and maintain Cisco Catalyst switching and Wi-Fi infrastructure, ensuring high availability, secure segmentation, and CMMC-compliant network operations across campus and data center environments

Engineer, harden, and operate Palo Alto next-generation firewalls and Panorama systems, managing firewall rules, VPN configurations, threat prevention profiles, and firmware updates

Integrate network and firewall telemetry with the SIEM, monitor for anomalies, and lead incident response in coordination with the IT Department and other stakeholders

Configure and maintain routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), QoS, and multicast for real-time data delivery and enterprise-grade application performance

Automate recurring network tasks using Python, Ansible, or other infrastructure-as-code tools and maintain accurate network diagrams and documentation

Participate in change control windows after hours as needed, support a weekly on-call rotation, and travel occasionally (up to 10%) to launch, test, or backup sites

Collaborate with systems, DevOps, and mission operations teams to support NASA, ITAR, and CMMC compliance goals, and mentor junior staff on secure networking practices

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience

5+ years of enterprise network engineering experience, with strong background in Cisco routing, switching, and Wi-Fi platforms

2+ years of hands-on experience managing Palo Alto Networks firewalls and Panorama

Strong understanding of TCP / IP, VLANs, ACLs, STP, HSRP / VRRP, IPSec / SSL VPNs, and network segmentation

Familiarity with high-availability networking design, Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), and cloud interconnects (ExpressRoute or Direct Connect)

Experience supporting security frameworks such as NIST 800-171, CMMC Level 2, or NASA-specific controls

Physical ability to rack and cable equipment and lift up to 40 lbs when needed

Preferred Skills

Cisco CCNP Enterprise or Security, Palo Alto PCNSE (or ability to obtain within 6 months)

Familiarity with SD-WAN, Prisma Access, or SASE architectures

Experience with Wireshark, NetFlow tools, and network packet capture analysis

PowerShell, Python, or Terraform experience for infrastructure automation
