New Mexico Department of Health's Turquoise Lodge Hospital is a facility that provides substance abuse treatment services to New Mexico residents. We specialize in medical detoxification, social rehabilitation services, and Intensive Outpatient services.
Why does the job exist?
This position is responsible for supervising medical providers with varied licenses that range from nurse practitioners, internal medicine, and pharmacy. NMAC regulations, TLH Medical By-Laws and accreditation bodies (Joint Commission) require a Specialty Hospital to have a Medical Director to oversee the medical management of our patients.
How does it get done?
Oversees all medical treatment of patients in facility; directly provides medical services to patients in facility; assures that policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, directives, initiatives, and planned outcomes as they relate to medical practice established by TLH and DOH are enforced; provides direct supervision to all medical providers in facility; oversees medication variance process (as needed).

Adults who present with substance misuse and co-occurring disorders and staff of Turquoise Lodge Hospital.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience :
Minimum Qualification
Requires a license to practice medicine in New Mexico and Psychiatrist, OB / GYN, Internal Medicine, Family Practice, General Surgery, or Emergency Medicine Board Certification. Must possess an active controlled substance license and DEA registration in New Mexico and six (6) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field above licensure requirements and / or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
This position is designated a safety sensitive. Must successfully complete post offer preemployment criminal records background check is conditional pending results of criminal background check. Employment is subject to preemployment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and / or drug testing. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a rehabilitation hospital setting. Exposure to Visual / Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Long periods of walking, sitting, standing, bending and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds may be required. Exposure to potentially violent patients in a volatile situation. May be required to work weekends, holidays and overtime. Some travel may be required.
