City Clerk / Historic Preservation
Part-time position with a maximum of 20 hours per week and 1,000 hours in a fiscal year. Closing date is September 25, 2025, at 6PM, or once 100 applications are received, whichever occurs first, without further notice.
Examples of duties include :
- Create organizational categories and sub-categories within a database in order to sort the history collection.
- Categorize historical Norco documents and photographs.
- Identify photograph locations in relevance to the City of Norco.
- Identify individuals in photographs (acquired skill with time and familiarity with the collection).
- Research information (date, topic, etc.) on historical items.
- Input data of collection pieces into an Excel database within the proper categories.
- Identify items using archival methods (labels, tags, stickers, archival boxes, etc.) and return them to their location within the facility.
- Mark pieces of the collection that are notable for display purposes.
- Assist in the creation of displays.
- Keep the databases organized to avoid misplacement of history collection materials.
- Check other member's work to avoid repeat inputs and ensure fluency.
- Work with Historic Preservation Commissioners and / or Council Members.
Typical qualifications include :
Any combination of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Experience : three years of general office experience, including some work in a museum or with historic artifacts.Education : high school diploma or equivalent.Ability to properly organize work including time management and project initiation; research, analyze and make sound recommendations; communicate clearly verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the staff, public and community groups; research, sort and file historic documents.Knowledge of office, clerical, customer service, research, and filing methods and techniques; basic preservation knowledge; and principles; computer hardware, software and peripherals; business English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.Supplemental information includes :
Work is performed in an office environment. Requires vision (which may be corrected) to read small print. Requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects. Requires mobility to stand, stoop, reach, and bend. Sit for long periods while typing and using a computer. Performs lifting, pushing and / or pulling and lift up to 25 pounds for the purpose of lifting supplies or equipment. Requires the ability to move from place to place within the office and to reach for items above and below desk level.
