Founded in 2013, the Second-year Transformational Experience Program (STEP) serves nearly 3,000 second-year students annually through mentorship, professional development and High Impact Practices. Student participants explore academic, personal and professional goals under the guidance of a Faculty Mentor. Through engagement in small group cohort meetings and other programming, students develop skills in financial literacy, career exploration and leadership. The program culminates as students pursue a STEP Signature Project in one of the following categories : Creative and Artistic Endeavor, Education Abroad, Internship, Leadership, Service-Learning or Undergraduate Research. Over the lifespan of the program, STEP has enhanced student retention and has propelled students' development as individuals, scholars and aspiring professionals. The STEP Team is searching for an Academic Program Specialist to provide essential day-to-day administrative and programmatic support.
The Academic Program Specialist serves as a member of the STEP Administrative Team and uses multiple technologies and platforms to support program operations. Responsibilities include managing STEP email and phone communications, ensuring accurate and timely responses with students, mentors and campus partners. The role also involves evaluating STEP Signature Project proposals and addendums to verify alignment with program and university guidelines as well as tracking and reviewing students' program requirements. The Academic Program Specialist also manages student communications related to eligibility components such as financial wellness, STEP Expo participation, and Professional Development Co-curricular (PDC) programs. Additionally, the position tracks and communicates student involvement in cohort assignments, changes and cancellations. The Academic Program Specialist will plan and support STEP events including the Student Welcome, STEP Expos, and Faculty Mentor gatherings, contribute to recruitment and retention efforts, and complete special projects aligned with STEP's annual priorities, data management, and reporting needs. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Additional Information :
Required Education & Experience :
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent customer service; proficient in key office software programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; project management skills.
