A well-established and growing intellectual property law firm, known for its commitment to protecting innovation, is seeking a skilled Patent Attorney with a Mechanical Engineering background to join their collaborative team. Key Responsibilities :
- Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications for intricate mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.
- Conduct patentability assessments, prior art searches, validity analyses, infringement analyses, and freedom-to-operate opinions.
- Build and implement effective intellectual property strategies, including patent portfolio management and risk evaluations.
- Collaborate closely with inventors, engineers, and legal colleagues to turn innovative concepts into high-quality patent applications.
- Manage a sophisticated patent docket independently while meeting deadlines.
- Conduct client consultations, provide legal insights, and undertake administrative duties as needed.
Qualifications :
Strong knowledge in intellectual property law, specifically in patent preparation and prosecution.Proficient understanding of mechanical systems, manufacturing processes, and related innovations.Outstanding communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to build relationships with internal and external partners.Proven organizational and management skills to handle multiple projects with attention to detail.Prior experience in industries such as automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, medical devices, robotics, agriculture, building systems, or consumer products is preferred.Familiarity with foreign patent prosecution procedures is a plus.Education and Experience Requirements :
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.Active license to practice law in Minnesota (Certificate of Good Standing required).Registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or similar field) from an accredited institution.Minimum of two years of experience in both patent prosecution and mechanical engineering roles.Compensation and Benefits :
This position offers a competitive salary ranging from $120,000 to $200,000 , dependent on experience, skills, and credentials. Benefits include :
