Communications Principal, Policy Communications and External Affairs

The Policy Communications and External Affairs team is at the forefront of shaping communications around the most advanced technologies on the planet and helping advocate for policies that enable customer innovation. The team is seeking an experienced communications leader to lead media relations and communications campaigns that support policy and business objectives across the U.S. This individual will build and execute successful strategic communications campaigns build media relationships and serve as an on-the-record spokesperson. Prior experience related to AI infrastructure technology policy and crisis communications is preferred.

Your day will be a dynamic blend of strategic storytelling media engagement and cross-functional collaboration. Youll dive deep into emerging technology and policy and engage with top tier business policy and technology media. You should be motivated by a dynamic highly creative culture where the challenge of breaking new ground and redefining best practices is welcome. You will have the ability to work alongside a variety of internal teams and operate across different business policy and technology areas. You should have extensive media relations and policy experience and a track record of utilizing good judgement in high pressure situations.

Key job responsibilities

• Define develop and oversee end-to-end execution of communications programs
• Manage reputational issues with internal stakeholders and members of the media
• Develop and strengthen relationships with technology policy and business journalists
• Work cross-functionally to plan and execute PR campaigns
• Manage complex fast-moving and unexpected communications challenges with high judgment and professionalism
• 10 years of recent professional communications or public relations experience
• Bachelors degree
• Experience executing highly successful creative campaigns and events
• Proven experience managing media relationships and a network of media and technology association contacts
• An entrepreneurial spirit including ability to work independently and autonomously
• Excellent strategic thinking analytical and organizational skills
• Ability to communicate complex topics effectively
• Expert understanding of technology and public policy trends
• Top-notch writing and verbal communications skills
• Thrives in a collaborative environment with a hands-on work ethic
• Experience pitching proactive stories to technology policy and business publications

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $135700 / year in our lowest geographic market up to $224300 / year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
