Thoracic Organ Procurement Surgeon

The Division of Cardiac Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) seeks candidates for the position of Organ Procurement Surgeon (OPS). The OPS will participate in independent heart and lung procurements and back bench preparation of procured organs, as well as death after cardiac death, normothermic machine perfusion, and in situ normothermic regional perfusion protocols. There are extensive research opportunities in donor management and organ perfusion. As the lead procurement surgeon, the OPS will oversee the training of transplant fellows in organ procurement. When on duty, the OPS will be immediately available to respond to all calls for retrieval of organs from outside institutions.

Qualifications : The applicant should qualify for an unrestricted PA license (if not held, assistance in obtaining will be provided); must have experience in thoracic transplant procurement; should possess demonstrated clinical ability and experience to perform duties and responsibilities outlined above and work effectively in a surgical service environment; and should exhibit appropriate verbal communication skills. The successful candidate will be eligible for active privileges as an attending physician at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and will receive salary through the Penn Medicine Clinician staff designation.
