About the Position
The Head Golf Professional is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Club’s golf operations and ensuring an exceptional experience for members and guests. This role directs the daily functions of the golf shop, practice facilities, tournaments, instruction programs, merchandising, and outside services. The Head Golf Professional leads and mentors the golf staff, fosters a welcoming and service focused environment, and maintains high standards of professionalism consistent with ACC’s long-standing values and traditions. They must work in full alignment with the General Manager, supporting the Club’s strategic vision and ensuring all golf operations reinforce the successful direction of the Club. This position plays a vital role in shaping the Club’s golf culture, enhancing member engagement, and collaborating closely with Club leadership to uphold ACC’s reputation as the premier private club in the Texas Panhandle.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the Head Golf Professional position is a well-rounded, hands-on leader with a deep understanding of private club culture and an unwavering commitment to delivering a high quality, member-focused golf experience. This individual operates with professionalism, integrity, and consistency, ensuring that all members are treated with equal respect and that no member or group receives preferential treatment. They understand that the success of the golf program depends on fairness, visibility, and fostering relationships across the entire membership, not just a select few.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of professional golf management experience, ideally serving as a Head Golf Professional at a full-service private club or as a distinguished First Assistant at highly respected clubs. They bring proven expertise in golf operations, staff leadership, instruction, merchandising, tournament administration, and outside services. They also must demonstrate experience interfacing with and supporting Golf Committees, as well as working collaboratively with Men’s and Ladies Golf Associations. Their leadership style is hands-on, engaged, and rooted in daily operational presence, with a demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain high-quality professional staff, which is essential to the success of ACC’s golf operation. In addition, they possess knowledge of USGA handicap System guidelines and experience fairly managing handicaps and score posting in a manner that promotes integrity and consistency across the membership.
The ideal professional is a skilled golfer with demonstrated competitive playing experience, serving as a role model for staff and representing the Club with credibility. They also possess meaningful teaching ability and instructional experience, offering lessons, clinics, and player development programs for golfers at every level.
This candidate must be passionate about promoting golf at Amarillo Country Club, with a demonstrated track record of growing programs and increasing member participation at their current or prior clubs. They will lead efforts to strengthen and expand junior golf, elevate women’s golf programming, and develop tournaments and events that reflect the culture and preferences of ACC members. Their goal is to create an inclusive, vibrant, and engaging golf calendar that appeals to all demographics.
Equally important, the ideal candidate maintains a consistent presence on the course, playing with members of all groups, ages, and skill levels, not just familiar or preferred circles. They encourage their assistant professionals to do the same, recognizing that visibility, relationship building, and member engagement are core components of the ACC golf experience.
This individual also understands the importance of structure and accountability. They must consistently enforce ACC golf rules and policies, never applying situational enforcement and ensure that expectations for pace of play, course care, attire, and etiquette are upheld fairly and professionally. Their approach promotes respect for the Club’s traditions while supporting continuous improvement in member experience.
In addition, the ideal candidate is proficient in golf management technologies, including point-of-sale systems, instructional platforms, tee-sheet management, and tournament software. They are organized, technologically capable, and comfortable using systems that enhance efficiency, communication, and service. They must also be able to develop, manage, and oversee the golf operations budget, ensuring financial responsibility and alignment with the Club’s strategic goals.
