We are looking for a highly skilled Controller to oversee and enhance our financial operations in Dearborn, Michigan. This role is integral to ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and supporting strategic decision-making. As a key member of the leadership team, you will manage accounting processes, safeguard organizational assets, and contribute to the success of our mission.
Responsibilities :
- Supervise and lead the finance team, ensuring efficient management of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Oversee the annual budgeting process, monitor financial performance, and provide regular updates to leadership.
- Manage grant accounting, including compliance and reporting requirements for funding sources.
- Ensure all required filings, such as Form 990 and Michigan state reports, are completed accurately and on time.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and optimize cash flow management.
- Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits and act as the fiscal lead when necessary.
- Provide support to leadership in financial planning and decision-making processes.
- Continuously evaluate and improve accounting processes to enhance efficiency and compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business with a focus in Accounting.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with supervisory experience preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards and practices.
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex financial data.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in month-end close processes, bank reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Experience in grant accounting and compliance reporting.
- Ability to manage balance sheet account reconciliations and ensure financial accuracy.
