Senior Mechanical Engineer – HVAC
Our client is seeking a seasoned Senior Mechanical Engineer (HVAC) to lead the planning, design, and execution of mechanical and HVAC projects across complex industrial and facility environments. This role serves as a key technical expert responsible for optimizing system performance, guiding engineering initiatives, and supervising technical staff to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
This role is fully onsite in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Senior Mechanical Engineer – HVAC Responsibilities
Lead the full lifecycle of mechanical and HVAC engineering projects, including design development, system evaluations, technical troubleshooting, and implementation oversight for industrial and facility applications.
Serve as the Engineer of Record for assigned projects, ensuring technical accuracy, code compliance, and proper documentation throughout each phase.
Conduct in-depth assessments of existing HVAC, mechanical, and control systems to diagnose performance issues, evaluate equipment failures, and develop effective remediation strategies.
Create detailed project plans, budgets, scopes, and schedules while monitoring progress and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Oversee the work of consultants, contractors, and internal technical staff, providing direction, mentorship, and performance management.
Prepare and review technical documents, including engineering reports, specifications, drawings, and construction submittals for clarity, constructability, and adherence to industry standards.
Develop bidding documents, participate in contractor selection, and administer contracts, including payment approvals and change management.
Coordinate project activities with internal teams, regulatory agencies, and external partners to ensure smooth execution and regulatory compliance.
Ensure all projects meet applicable federal, state, and local codes, environmental requirements, and organizational policies.
Promote a strong safety culture by participating in safety programs and reinforcing best practices in equipment maintenance and workplace procedures.
Support a collaborative, inclusive, and respectful team environment, fostering open communication and professional growth.
Drive to various work locations using a personal or company vehicle as required.
Senior Mechanical Engineer – HVAC Qualifications
Current Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Oregon, or the ability to obtain Oregon registration within six months of hire.
Minimum of 5 years of experience designing, constructing, or maintaining HVAC and mechanical systems in industrial or complex facility settings.
Minimum of 3 years of project management experience, including team leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
Technical Knowledge & Skills :
Strong understanding of mechanical and hydraulic system design principles, equipment functionality, and application in industrial facilities.
Proficiency with HVAC systems, temperature and humidity control, ventilation strategies, and related mechanical infrastructure.
Ability to prepare, manage, and evaluate engineering designs, studies, specifications, and cost estimates.
Experience developing project budgets, schedules, and bid documents, and administering construction or engineering contracts.
Skilled in identifying root causes of system issues, evaluating alternative solutions, and implementing improvements.
Competence with CAD software, modeling tools, and general engineering applications, along with standard office software.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess technical challenges, anticipate impacts, and propose actionable recommendations.
Leadership & Communication :
Experience selecting, training, and evaluating technical staff, fostering teamwork, and supporting professional development.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, contractors, regulators, and community stakeholders.
Clear and professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budget requirements.
Education & Additional Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field preferred.
Valid driver’s license required.
Salary : $110K-$151K / year. (DOE)
