Mass Spec Application Specialist III
This position provides both non-technical and technical support within the mass spectrometry clinical testing laboratory. The Mass Spec Application Specialist II will apply principles of analytical chemistry and biochemistry to validate, verify, troubleshoot, and help design improvements to mass spectrometry-based testing in a fast-paced production environment. Must be able to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team with shifting timelines and work assignments. Must have good documentation and communication skills. This position works under the direction of Mass Spec Application Engineer, Application Developer, Supervisor and Technical Director.
Establishes and monitors the standards of accuracy, precision, and efficiency in the performance of assay improvement projects as assigned.
Accepts, resolves, and facilitates the resolution of problems per user requirements in assigned projects with technical oversight.
Effectively communicates project progression and any hurdles with labs, R&D and other key project members and key stakeholders.
Assists in the evaluation, validation, precision, and correlation studies of new methods for existing and new instrumentation and liquid handlers as assigned.
Assists in instrument and automated liquid handler evaluation and troubleshooting as assigned.
Verifies that all daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance is performed and documented as scheduled.
Notifies the supervisor of any instrument performance issues. Maintains records of all instrument maintenance. Notifies Supervisor and Purchasing of any vendor visits.
Serve as a mentor and trainer for Mass Spec Application Specialist 1's and 2's as needed.
Assists R&D, technical operations or support teams with problem solving in support of test troubleshooting, improvement, validations and verifications in mass spectrometry-based testing as assigned.
Assists in collection of user requirements and contributes to mass spectrometry-based test improvement and optimization projects.
Assists clinical operations or support teams with problem solving in support of mass spectrometry-based tests within own projects.
Assists in collection of data for validation and contributes to writing technical documents as needed.
Assists in preparation and execution of instrument installation, operation, and performance qualifications (IQOQPQ)
Assists in analysis of the impact of version upgrades on existing systems and contributes to recommendations on a plan of action related to system upgrades
Assists the project teams in the cost analysis of new projects, supports capital acquisition, and provides justification for upgrades and additional equipment for own projects.
Assists in training of MSDO specialists and MSO staff as needed
Assists in development training modules as necessary.
Tracks and manages changes in mass spectrometry-based tests and documentation
Contributes to the development of maintenance protocols and assists in monitoring of instrument performance.
Effectively communicates project progression and any hurdles with team members and other key stakeholders
Contributes to development or modifications for current procedures to improve cost and / or labor efficiency
Assists in literature review to adequately obtain and access all options for assay improvement

PPE : Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.

Continuing Education : Continual assessment of current literature and best practices
Bachelor's Degree or better in Biology or related field.
Bachelor of Science degree in a technically related field
At least one year of experience as a Mass Spec Application Specialist 2 or equivalent position.
Categorical ASCP certification in the applicable discipline, C(ASCP) or MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP)
Prior experience developing mass spectrometry-based test
Applicable ASCP or AAB
