Position Summary :
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Controller / Risk Manager to join our Accounting team. This dual-role position is ideal for a seasoned accounting professional with strong analytical skills and a proactive mindset toward risk mitigation and compliance. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting financial reporting, controls, and operational risk management for a growing portfolio of multi-family properties across multiple markets.
Key Responsibilities :
Accounting & Financial Reporting (Assistant Controller Functions) :
- Assist with the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple entities and properties.
- Assist with property-level accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.
- Assist with external audits, tax return preparations, and lender reporting requirements.
- Perform ad-hoc and short-term accounting and financial tasks as requested by senior management, including special analyses, reporting needs, or time-sensitive projects.
Risk Management Functions :
Serve as the internal point of contact for insurance matters, working closely with brokers and property teams.Manage the annual insurance renewal process for property and corporate coverages.Track and respond to insurance claims, coordinating with adjusters and legal teams as needed.Maintain COI (Certificate of Insurance) compliance for vendors, contractors, and tenants.Identify and assess operational and financial risks across the portfolio; recommend and implement mitigation strategies.Monitor lender and investor compliance requirements related to insurance and risk matters.Evaluate risk exposures and ensure adequate coverage and policy limits across all assets.Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in real estate, private equity, or property management.Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.Prior experience managing or coordinating risk management and insurance programs.Familiarity with Yardi, MRI, or similar property management / accounting software.Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
