Robotic Surgical Coordinator

Under the supervision of Director of OR, the Robotic Coordinator participates as a member of the perioperative team performing direct and indirect perioperative tasks for patients having pediatric and adult surgical and endoscopy procedures. The primary focus of this position is as a surgical assistant. This individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles and practices of aseptic technique, knowledge of equipment, instruments, procedures and supplies used in the operating room and central sterile department. Maintains preference cards for surgeons, supplies needed to use robot, and ensures proper decontamination and sterilization of robotic equipment. Adheres to strict use of standard precautions and the use of personal protective equipment. Able to work under pressure and in situations that demand patience, tact, stamina and endurance. This person must ensure proper care and maintenance for all surgical instrumentation and equipment during usage and the decontamination processes. The Robotic Coordinator works shifts as assigned by the Department Head. Weekday, weekend and holiday call are assigned on a rotating basis. May occasionally work past assigned shift due to extenuating circumstances related to the care and safety of a patient(s). May be assigned additional duties within scope of practice, including but not limited to central sterile duties.

Physical Requirements : May be expected to lift up to 50 pounds or up to 150 pounds with assistance. May be expected to push or pull up to 500 pounds with assistance. Work is of medium demand; walking or standing most of the time while on duty. Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required. Optimal auditory acuity required. Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and instruments or needles is essential to performing assigned duties. Physical conditions are clean, neat and well-lit. May be subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions needed to be taken is essential. Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced and required by patient care and needs of the surgical team. Exposure to limited amounts of radiation, hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility. Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to the requirements of the daily surgical schedule.

OSHA Exposure Classification : Job Classification I. Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability :

Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.

High school diploma or equivalent

Must be licensed surgical assistant, registered nurse or certified surgical technician certification.

Previous experience is preferred

Ability to relate and work effectively with others

BLS certification, must re-certify prior to expiration date on card

Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards

Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement

Is aware of standards and performs in accordance with them
