This innovative center will have the capacity to produce 300 million pounds of custom-formulated feedstock per year and convert it into ISCC-PLUS-certified feedstock suitable for mechanical and advanced recycling applications.

Role Summary

The Production Manager role at Cyclyx' cutting-edge recycling center requires an enterprising team leader with a proven history of optimizing the operational efficacy and efficiency of material handling and processing facilities. The role will require a person with an aptitude for 1) Building and leading teams, 2) Managing facility production, 3) Flexing between leadership and individual contributor activities in support of standing up and operating the facility. This position requires a hands-on manager who regularly interacts with the operations team and has a keen eye towards process improvement and optimization.

During the mechanical completion and commissioning of the plant, the focus of this role will be on supporting the Plant Manager through the development of processes and systems that are crucial for safe and efficient operation of the facility. This leadership position will also include responsibilities such as : team building and leadership, setting goals and practicing accountability, training development, and improvement plans.

The Production Manager has prior experience with plastics recycling or bulk material processing and handling operations on an industrial scale.

The safety of all personnel is the highest priority. The Production Manager is responsible for supporting and contributing to a strong safety culture that is evident in the plant's daily operations and EHS related KPI's.

Responsibilities

  • Production Management

Oversee the operation and maintenance of plastic recycling machinery : shredders, trommels, separation and sortation equipment (including optical), pelletizers, loading and storage equipment, utilities (air compressors, dryers, etc.)

  • Operate the facility in a manner to achieve established KPIs, such as : OEE, feed rate and conversion %, tons / day output, quality, inventory turnover rate, etc.
  • Optimize production lines to improve throughput and material recovery.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance team to schedule preventive maintenance and minimize unexpected breakdowns.
  • Support the raw material procurement team and oversee the inventory management of on-site storage and shipment, including delivery management and yard movements.
  • Process Optimization
  • Work with the Plant Engineer to identify and eliminate bottlenecks in the facility operation.

  • Develop project ideas and justifications to support improved operation of the facility, including modern technologies as warranted.
  • Use Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma techniques to improve efficiency, throughput, and yield.
  • Lead and participate in process and equipment RCAs as warranted.
  • Quality Control
  • Implement and monitor quality standards for plastic pellets and commodity off-take per specifications.

  • Work with QA / QC teams to conduct regular testing and ensure output meets customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Address contamination issues (e.g., mixed polymers, labels, metals) and improve sorting accuracy.
  • Materials Handling & Inventory
  • Track incoming feedstock (e.g., post-consumer plastic containers, film, or industrial scrap) and outgoing finished products.

  • Ensure proper segregation of different plastic types and grades throughout the process.
  • Manage storage and movement of materials in compliance with safety and fire codes.
  • Safety and Compliance

  • Safety Management
  • Ensures that Production employees and contractors always work safely and promotes an environment where safety is a priority. Follows safety procedures, corrects safety and environmental hazards. Reads, understands, and implements lockout / tagout, safety rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Thoroughly and promptly investigates accidents or near misses in conjunction with EHS and facility management and ensures that any unsafe practices or conditions are addressed appropriately.

  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of Operation and Production procedures and their associated safety precautions built into the routine workflow.
  • Responsible for maintaining good housekeeping within the operating facility
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure that all Production practices comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including EHS regulations.

  • Maintain records of Production activities to demonstrate compliance during inspections and audits.
  • Team Management and Training

  • Staff Supervision
  • Lead and supervise the production team, including hiring, training, and evaluating personnel as assigned and appropriate.

  • Schedule and assign work to production staff, ensuring proper coverage for all shifts.
  • Training and Development
  • Provide ongoing training for production staff to ensure they are skilled in the operation of the facility and associated safety practices.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Documentation and Reporting

  • Production Records
  • Maintain accurate production logs, downtime records, quality reports, and compliance documentation.

  • Create and establish processes with the ERP (MS Dynamics 365) as part of the initial plant commissioning.
  • Utilize ERP to track and document production activities.
  • Reporting
  • Prepare and present regular reports on production KPIs for local and senior management.

  • Communicate effectively with senior management and other stakeholders regarding production plans and progress.
  • Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Develop and oversee operational budgets related to plastic processing, staffing, and equipment use.
  • Monitor consumption of energy, packaging materials, etc. and implement cost-saving initiatives.
  • Reduce material losses and reject rates through continuous process optimization.
  • Coordination and Collaboration

    Interdepartmental Coordination

    Collaborate with maintenance, quality control, logistics and engineering teams to ensure that production activities align with company and plant goals and standards.

  • Participate in cross-functional teams to address facility-wide challenges and initiatives.
  • Project Management
  • Lead and manage production projects as appropriate, such as implementation of updates to procedures.

  • Ensure such projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Experience / Knowledge

  • Minimum 7 years' experience in Production leadership, with at least 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent judgment regarding health, safety, environmental and fire protection risks with emphasis on injury prevention and business continuity.
  • Experience managing departmental budgets and spending.
  • Experience with automated mechanical processing equipment, e.g., shredders, contaminant removal technologies, belt and pneumatic conveyors, optical sortation, and palletization.
  • Experience managing vendors / contractors.
  • Ability to quickly learn the ins and outs of mechanical plastic recycling equipment.
  • Proficient communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent business acumen, commitment to teamwork, and results driven.
  • Confident, proactive, and possessing strong critical thinking skills.
  • Impeccable personal and professional ethics.
  • Ability to build, maintain, and contribute to a team environment.
  • Ability to travel domestically. Flights may be required.
  • Education and Training

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited program (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or specialized Mechanical preferred).
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Microsoft Dynamics preferred.
  • Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience.
  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) or Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) experience preferred
  • Position Mechanics

    Reports to : Plant Manager

    Type : Exempt; Full-time

    Work Hours : Flexible, but must be available 8 : 00-5 : 00, Monday to Friday with occasional evening and weekend work.

    Location : Houston, Texas.

    Work environment : Primarily office environment but may also work in an industrial environment at times where the use of PPE is required.

    Travel : Travel will be less than 25% per year.

    Physical Demand varied between work performed in an office environment and that of equipment operators.

    Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status.
