Job Summary :
The Stage Production Carpenter and Studio Supervisor plays a crucial role in Theatre TCU providing essential on-campus support in overseeing the Scenic Construction and Installation Studio. This position will be instrumental in guiding, coordinating, and ensuring the physical features of student-driven projects within the Scenic Studio area. The Stage Production Carpenter will collaborate closely with student workers and other production staff within the Department of Theatre to oversee the creation of all scenic elements used in Theatre TCU productions.
Duties & Essential Job Functions :
1. Collaborates closely with directors, designers, and production teams to determine the physical requirements and specifications for scenic art and props.
2. Works alongside student interns to create high-quality scenic elements that align with the artistic vision of productions and uphold the department's high standards.
3. Provides guidance, training, and feedback to student designers and interns, ensuring their effective participation in scenic construction and installation.
4. Communicates regularly with other production departments and theater staff to advise on timelines for Scenic Studio projects, status of projects, or any complications / concerns that may result in changes to original set or prop design.
5. Delegates, coordinates, and oversees tasks effectively to ensure timely completion of scenic elements within production timelines.
6. Oversees the organization and maintenance of scenic studio inventories.
7. Ensures proper storage, maintenance, and repair of all tools, tuning of saws, and overall cleanliness of the studio.
8. Appropriately trains student workforce in the safe and appropriate use of industrial grade power tools and equipment in keeping with OSHA mandates. Oversees use of equipment within the shop to ensure proper safety guidelines are being followed.
9. Collaborates with other production departments, including scenic design, lighting, and sound, to ensure the seamless integration of scenic elements and props into overall productions.
10. Stays current with industry trends, best practices, techniques, and materials.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
