Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position

The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) division is a customer-driven team that provides day-to-day maintenance and ensures the successful operation of all County Facilities. The Facilities Management Department is seeking a full-time, skilled Electrician to perform journey-level activities, which may include installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality work and have a strong focus on customer service to join our O&M team. The workgroup consists of numerous crafts and specialty trades, where teamwork is a priority, working in county buildings 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

As the landlord for all facilities owned by Maricopa County, the Facilities Management Department is responsible for the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operations of more than 200 facilities comprised of over 10 million square feet. Facilities Management is made up of a collaborative team that provides and performs various functions to meet the facility-related needs of all Maricopa County Departments. We Require

Three years of journey-level experience in a commercial and or industrial electrical work environment

High school diploma or GED

Completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational education in the electrical field may substitute for up to one year of the experience requirement

Other Requirements

Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire and have an acceptable driving record

Must complete a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) background investigation to access County detention facilities

Five or more years of experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems within an institutional, industrial, or heavy commercial environment

Job Contributions

Diagnose and repair electrical motor control systems

Install electrical circuits from 120v to 480v, layout, bend, and install conduit

Perform load calculations

Maintain, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment and the distribution system

Document information on the preventive maintenance program and maintain a major maintenance spreadsheet for pending repairs

Modify and update systems to conform to code

Perform inspections of building envelopes

Estimate time and order materials for projects and repairs

Other job duties as assigned

Working Conditions

Duties require lifting / deadlifting (floor to waist) of up to 50 pounds, bending, twisting, squatting, pushing, or pulling up to 100 pounds, up to 100 feet while navigating through equipment rooms, on building rooftops, and in restrictive areas. Must be able to safely climb ladders, scaffolding, and step stools in the execution of duties. Requires bending, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling in all indoor and outdoor environments. Exposure to heights and uneven walking surfaces for the purpose of inspecting elevated building equipment

Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness / humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel

Incumbent may encounter some temperature extremes, confined areas, high noise levels, dim lighting, dust or smoke, potential contagious diseases, and traumatic subject matter. Working in jail environments and in hot / humid conditions on a regular basis. Exposure to various forms of hazardous energy sources, including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems

This position may require a rotating on-call / stand-by schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Machines, tools, equipment, software, and hardware

Must be proficient with and capable of using basic hand tools, benders, cordless power tools, electrical testing equipment, including multimeter, clamp meter, megohmmeter, circuit tracer, etc.

Must be capable of working with aerial lifts upon completion of county-provided training

Protective Equipment Required

Must be capable of using various forms of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required to fulfill the requirements of the position

Special working environments include, but are not limited to

Adult and juvenile detention facilities, medical facilities (both detention and public health), forensics, courts, and related justice facilities. This position may require a rotating on-call / stand-by schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
