Salary Range $82,000.00 - $131,500.00
The Associate Director 2 for the Human Genome Sciences (HGS) Track provides strategic direction and leadership for a range of policies and processes relating to students, academic records, data, and security, enrollment policies and procedures, and improvement of student systems, processes, and services in support of the university's academic mission. The Associate Director reports directly to the director(s) of the track and is responsible for organizing, implementing, and managing all academic services for all track students from admission through program completion. The scope of this position encompasses student recruitment, operational oversight, curriculum development, and program management, and serves as the primary point of contact for prospective and current graduate students. The Associate Director oversees 2 Registrars during the Student Recruitment process and builds a culture of belonging through training and thoughtful supervision. The Associate Director is responsible for educating students through programs and seminars such as the Research Skills / Ethics course and facilitating teaching, student learning, and academic staff support via excellent service, training, and tools.
Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective and current graduate students.
Organize and execute recruitment efforts to attract qualified candidates.
Manage all track program activities and the course catalog with annual updates.
Collaborate with faculty to design, implement, and continuously update the curriculum for the track.
Stay updated on current trends and literature in the field to contribute to continuous innovation in the program.
Participate in and contribute to program projects, including developing and maintaining publicity materials.
Develop support, information, and guidance programs to meet the specific needs of students in both academic and non-academic areas.
Foster a supportive environment for students and promote a sense of belonging through program activities.
Collaborate with the program administrators to coordinate course scheduling and room assignments.
Review, implement and optimize business practices related to student records, in compliance with academic policies and regulations.
Maintain records (including transcripts, grades, enrollment information and funding) of all students in the track, ensuring their integrity and confidentiality.
Develop and evaluate appropriate procedures for enrollment, program / plan changes, grade submissions, milestone completions, graduate student annual reports, degree completion approvals, and other processes related to graduate students and program activities.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities :
1. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
2. Computational expertise to manage and analyze datasets. (Examples include datasets relevant to student recruitment, status, and progress, as well as faculty affiliation, and interface with university tracking systems).
3. Well organized, ability to prioritize, strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
4. Ability to work independently with self-directed effort. Strong project management skills.
5. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact well with faculty, staff, students and research partners.
Preferred Skills and Abilities :
PhD in sciences with familiarity with genome biology, human genetics, and / or computational biology; and / or expertise in curriculum development and instructional design, and / or prior experience with university-level students, and / or administration. Exceptional candidates lacking one or more of these qualifications will also be considered.
Principal Responsibilities :
1. Manages multiple support, information, and guidance programs to develop community among University students.
2. Develops the support, information, and guidance programs to meet the specific needs of students in both academic and non-academic areas.
3. Assesses and identifies needs of the student community; develops multiple programs and resources to support these needs.
4. Promotes student development through individual advising, outreach, resources, and information sessions on assigned programs.
5. Develops and ensures adherence to protocol for promoting and publicizing activities and specific elements of assigned programs.
6. Directs, trains, supervises, and evaluates the performance of a full time student support team assigned to the department.
7. Serves as back-up for interviews with new or prospective students; offers information and answers questions about academic and non-academic issues at the University.
8. Designs outreach materials such as student employment applications and instructions for supervisors and students; plans public training meetings for University staff and students.
9. Participates in and contributes to office projects including development and maintenance of website, departmental meetings, and staff meetings.
10. Executes program changes as necessary in cooperation with other student services functions.
11. Supervises a staff of exempt and nonexempt employees.
12. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience :
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and six years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
