We are seeking an Automation Engineer for our client, a global law firm. This is a hybrid position, and candidates must be based in Dayton, OH; Boston, MA; or Washington, DC.

Position Overview

The Automation Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of automated and AI-based solutions to improve legal workflows. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, legal process understanding, and strong communication skills to drive efficiency and innovation. The Automation Engineer will work closely with practice and business stakeholders to identify process improvement opportunities, implement automation initiatives, and monitor system performance to ensure optimal results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with stakeholders to identify process improvement opportunities, gather requirements, and design solutions aligned with business needs.
  • Analyze and model business processes and information flows to identify inefficiencies.
  • Propose automation and AI-based solutions, making recommendations aligned with business requirements.
  • Document process change requirements using established standards, methods, and tools.
  • Design and implement automated solutions using the Microsoft Studio ecosystem.
  • Define, develop, and deliver processes and systems to meet customer experience expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels to ensure engagement and support for improvement initiatives.
  • Integrate automation solutions with existing systems and databases.
  • Provide technical oversight and review work from junior team members.
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy new applications and automations, and maintain / enhance existing ones.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure automation projects align with firm goals.
  • Display professionalism, quality service, and a positive, solutions-focused attitude.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft O365 applications and Microsoft Copilot Studio (Power Apps, AI agents).
  • Strong technical background with expertise in workflow automation and process improvement.
  • Experience with automation tools such as Power Automate, PowerApps, SharePoint, and Power BI.
  • Strong analytical, planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities under deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and tackle challenging projects.
  • Ability to work effectively with both users and technical staff in a team environment.
  • Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3–5 years of application design, development, and support experience.
  • Experience in workflow and process improvement methodology and technology strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence concepts.
  • Law firm experience preferred.
