JOB SUMMARY :
Assist with diagnostic and / or interventional procedures or treatments. May be required to provide 24-hour coverage for emergency procedures as dictated by the on-call schedule. Demonstrates a working knowledge of all equipment used and documents all pertinent patient data accordingly. Demonstrates friendliness, helpfulness, and concern with patients and visitors. Providing intraoperative care to surgical patients. Prepping, preparing and positioning patients for surgery. Maintaining a sterile environment by following aseptic technique, monitoring patient during surgery, and coordinating care throughout the process.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Consistently supports and communicates the Mission, Vision, and Values of St. Joseph Medical Center.

- Incorporates the patient's physiological, psychological, cultural, developmental and spiritual needs into the plan of care.
- Consistently follows patient care, and facility guidelines and procedures in performance.
Providing intraoperative care to surgical patients.
Prepping, preparing and positioning patients for surgery.
Maintaining a sterile environment by following aseptic technique, monitoring patient during surgery, and coordinating care throughout the process.
Directs support personnel in implementing patient's plan of care, provides supervision and guidance, and evaluates effectiveness of the delegated tasks.Collaborates with intraprofessional colleagues to ensure quality outcomes.Completes annual education requirements.Maintains competency, as evidenced by completion of competency validation requirements.Promotes of a culture of patient safety which results in the identification and reduction of unsafe practices.Uses nursing process to provide all levels of patient care.Uses professional judgment and critical thinking to prepare, prioritize, and execute the patient's plan of care consistent with patient assessment data, physicians' treatment plans, and professional standards of care.Implements measures to prevent exposure to infectious pathogens and communicable conditions.Prepares sterile products to be introduced to the sterile field, utilizing sterile technique.Demonstrates knowledge of supplies needed for specific procedures performed.Performs surgical scrub and assists during the procedure.Responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of physiologic parameters and patient safety.Performs hand hygiene to prevent transmission of microbes in support of patient safety.Provides call coverage for emergency procedures after scheduled cases and during the weekend on a rotating basis, using self-scheduling, as needed.Responds to emergency calls as prescribed by guidelines and or policies.Able to perform nursing function as deemed competent during an emergency procedure.Prepares patient for procedures by collaborating within an interdisciplinary team to provide physical and emotional support during safe patient care.Documents all pertinent patient data and communicates with nursing personnel from various floors to report changes in patients' condition and procedures performed.Has a thorough knowledge of all accessory equipment utilized during procedure.Other duties as assigned.Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments.Enhances the patient experience by fostering a positive relationship with customers.Contributes to improving HCAHPS results.Promotes stewardship of hospital resources while ensuring qualitypatient care.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Licensed as a Registered Nurse accepted by Texas State Board of Nursing to engage in professional nursing.BSN or progression to this degreeTechnical, clerical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills relevant to patient care / area.Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.Other certification requirements as defined by the certification policy.Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.Preferred :
Operating Room Nursing experience within the past 10 years to include one to two years of experience in the specialty area.National Certification as recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing CenterBi or MultilingualHouston's oldest hospital is GROWING!
