Meter Reader

Primary Duties / Responsibilities :

• Accurately reads water meters on assigned routes and records readings on digital hand-held registers; walks long distances (approximately 7 to 10 miles / day) to meter locations in various weather conditions carrying necessary gear; bends and lifts water meter lid in order to read meter.
• Cleans out meter boxes; cuts grass around lids; bails water out of meter box and uses shovel to remove dirt as needed.
• Checks to ensure that meters are functioning properly and reports defects.
• Hangs informational notice tags on customers doors.
• Performs re-reads of meters from weekly assignments as needed.
• Operates a City vehicle; refuels and maintains cleanliness and upkeep of vehicle.
• Follows safety guidelines and regulations.
• Answers customers questions when necessary.
• Refers unusual questions or occurrences to supervisor.
• Makes changes in routes as necessary.
• Assists in compiling and completing information for work reports studies safety meetings etc.
• Assists meter service representatives in performing their duties when necessary.
• Perform other related work as required.
