District Clerk Position

This position lends administrative support to the District Clerk's office and processes lawsuits being filed. The role of the clerk is to file and / or record these instruments, make them available as requested, and to inform the parties of important actions in the case by issuing appropriate processes.

Essential duties and responsibilities include : processing and preparing documents; compiling, copying, sorting, and filing records; communicating with customers, employees, and other individuals; administering orders from the judges; certifying all documents; filing mark indictments, assigning the judge and court, and assigning case numbers; preparing case folders; preparing the arraignment docket for the courts and notifying all attorneys and bondsman; attending court to assist with the arraignment docket; reading all judgments and coding the disposition in the computer for the state report; preparing "Pen Packs" for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice; performing scanning functions; maintaining office machines; assisting public and law firms in retrieving and viewing documents; maintaining and updating filing, inventory, mail, and database systems; collecting fees and disbursing change; opening, sorting, and routing incoming mail, answering correspondence, and preparing outgoing mail; answering telephones, directing calls, and taking messages; handling volatile situations caused by the nature of the cases; filing criminal appeals according to statutes; filing post-conviction writs of habeas corpus according to rules of court; assisting public in retrieving and viewing documents on microfilm and optical system; and regular attendance is required.

Qualifications, education, and / or experience include : high school graduation, or its equivalent, plus at least one year of experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Standard office practices, procedures, and equipment, including telephone etiquette and dealings with the public; laws regarding District Clerk records; ability to operate computers; type correspondence and documents; prioritize tasks; read and understand information; speak, read, write, and understand English; analyze various situations and determine best solutions; evaluate and solve problems; perform basic arithmetic calculations; maintain organization; establish and maintain effective working relationships; meet deadlines; multitask; work as a team; and work with a high level of accuracy and independently.
