Position Summary
The Janitorial Worker is responsible for the general care, cleanliness and basic upkeep of the parish facilities, including the church, Divine Mercy Chapel, Parish Office, St. Ann Hall, Goertz Hall, Catechetical Center, and Parish Rectory. This role requires familiarity with cleaning equipment and supplies, attention to detail, and strong sense of responsibility, always in support of the parish's mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clean and care for assigned areas including dusting, and polishing of furniture, equipment and other fixturesSanitize pews, chairs, and kneelersClean all building floors (sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming)Polish, seal, and strip floors as neededClean all windows, glass partitions, and mirrorsClean and resupply restroomsGather and empty trash binsCheck grounds for litter / garbage and unsafe conditionsStock and maintain all custodial supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner including, paper, toiletries, lighting cleaning chemicals and other suppliesIdentify and report building and ground issues in need of repair or attention to Parish administrator or designated supervisor.Observe and adhere to all safe work and health policies and regulationsRequirements
Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent is requiredPrior custodian / janitorial experience preferredKnowledge and / or experience working with cleaning equipment and chemicalsExperience with operating various cleaning equipmentAbility to perform with minimal daily supervisionMust be proactive in support of the Parish purpose, goals, policies and programsMust possess good interpersonal communication skillsMust complete and pass VIRTUS training and criminal background checkPhysical Demands / Work Environment
Regular exposure to cleaning supplies and maintenance-related tasksWork takes place in a church environment that includes sacred spaces and active parish programmingSpend majority of work time standing / squatting / lifting / kneeling doing a wide variety of moderate physical activity both indoors and outdoorsThe position requires the lifting of tools, and equipment or material weighing up to 30 lbs. as necessary.Use of ladders and climbing to maintain facilities when necessaryMaintains a neat clean appearanceThis is not necessarily an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, duties or working conditions associated with the job.
