Technical Writer

Join a dynamic team dedicated to supporting strategic initiatives focused on grid investment and modernization. As a Communication and Documentation Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring technical information and software documentation are clear, accurate, and accessible. Collaborate with technical experts and business stakeholders to translate complex data into meaningful content, supporting the transition to a sustainable energy infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain technical documentation, user guides, and knowledge base articles for internal software tools and analytics dashboards.

Update documentation in alignment with software release cycles and version updates.

Create engaging PowerPoint presentations and video content to highlight new tools, features, and business value.

Translate user feedback into actionable improvements for documentation and communication materials.

Draft clear and concise internal communications, including emails and newsletters, to support project updates and organizational change.

Maintain and enhance SharePoint content to ensure accuracy, usability, and alignment with team goals.

Create executive-ready one-pagers that distill complex technical concepts into digestible summaries.

Essential Skills

13 years of experience in technical writing or a related field, focusing on end-user documentation.

13 years of experience crafting engaging written communications.

Strong command of grammar and language standards (APA, MLA).

Familiarity with data analytics concepts, Power BI, and application development.

Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to collaborate across teams and levels.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint and SharePoint.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Technical Communications, Computer Science, Journalism, or a related field.

Understanding of UX / UI principles and how they influence content design.

Experience with video editing tools such as Camtasia, Adobe Premiere Pro, or After Effects.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, Alabama.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00 / hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
