Hybrid Work arrangement : A "Hybrid" position means selected candidates will be assigned to a facility and will spend some time working both in office and from their home.

Responsibilities

The position is within the Tax, Reinsurance and Financial Counseling unit of the Corporate Law Department. The unit advises on insurance-related tax, and general corporate tax issues. It also focuses on tax and ERISA issues concerning State Farm benefit programs and all financial services products offered by State Farm. The unit advises on international tax issues, acquisitions and reinsurance matters. The unit also advises on estate planning and financial counseling issues in support of State Farm's advanced planning area.

The primary focus of the Counsel / Attorney position in the Tax, Reinsurance and Financial Counseling unit is to advise on federal, international, state and local corporate tax matters.

This position entails not only advising on federal, state / local and international tax matters, but also a wide variety of additional responsibilities.

• Provide legal advice related to federal and state audits and other controversy work;
• Advise on tax compliance;
• Provide legal advice on issues involving various company transactions including mergers and acquisitions, reinsurance and federal and state tax credits;
• Provide legal advice to appropriate representatives of the State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company and its affiliates;
• Provide legal services on behalf of the State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company and its affiliates;
• Analyze legal problems, and interpret laws and regulations;
• Approach legal matters and / or litigation resolution in creative ways; and
• Serve as a resource for the organization on complex issues.

Qualifications

What We Are Looking For

Candidates with 4 or more years of federal and state corporate income tax experience preferably at a medium to large size law firm, national office of a prominent accounting firm, or in-house corporate legal department.

Qualified applicants must possess : a commitment to providing quality legal advice, learning agility (including a demonstrated willingness to develop expertise in new subject matters), and a history of enthusiastic participation in a team environment.
