Meal Driver - Part-Time Position
The City of Norwalk is seeking an experienced meal driver to fill a vacancy in the Social Services Department. Under moderate supervision, the meal driver will conduct vehicle safety inspections, account for and load meals and beverages, drive to assigned routes, and deliver meals and beverages. The driver will also maintain delivery inspection records and perform related duties as assigned.

Qualification Guidelines
Knowledge of : policies, procedures and goals of the City of Norwalk and the department; good sanitary cleaning practices in the kitchen; sanitary food service practices in the kitchen; principles and practices of effective customer service. Skills in : the safe and proper operation of food handling, maintain records and supplies. Ability to : communicate effectively with senior citizens of diverse background; relate sensitively and effectively to elderly persons of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds; conduct daily vehicle inspections and prepare accurate records and required reports; use time effectively while maintaining a helpful and courteous attitude toward the public and co-workers; verbally communicate in meetings; and cooperate with others in the provision of services, which are highly satisfactory to participants, funding sources and participating agencies. Education and / or Experience : High School Diploma and / or minimum of one (1) year experience in performing the duties in one nor more of the areas listed above. Special Requirements : A valid Class C California Driver License; proof of, safe driving record for at least the past five years. Bilingual English / Spanish is desirable. Certified Safe Food Handler (successful completion of the ServSafe examination).

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
