The undergraduate Informatics degree program focuses on how information intersects with people, technology, and data. With advancements in information technology such as big data, artificial intelligence / machine learning, and the internet of things, there is an increased need for experts who not only understand how technology functions, but also understand the social, cultural, and ethical issues surrounding the design, development, support, and access to these technologies. The program is designed to serve undergraduate students who are interested in either a liberal arts-based or STEM-based approach to the rapidly growing intersection of people, information, technology, and data.

Purpose

Provide academic advising to Informatics undergraduate students and serve as the principal coordinator for student life programs and activities . Provide general support to the undergraduate program at the School of Information.

Responsibilities

Advising

Advise Informatics students on course selection for current and future semesters, degree requirements, catalog and major changes, progress towards the degree and degree audit, degree information, and planning for graduation . Devel op advis ing aids. Serve as a First-Year Interest Group (FIG) facilitator.

Maintain accurate and confidential digital student records in accordance with FERPA regulations and university policies.

Provide support to the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Student Services in tracking students experiencing academic challenges and monitoring those on academic warning.

Provide information to Informatics students regarding campus resources and student services. Assist students with crisis management by making appropriate referrals and recommendations . Update the undergraduate student handbook. Maintain student email lists.

Student Life

Develop and implement program s to build community and enhance student engagement.

Serve as departmental contact for registered student organizations.

Undergraduate Program Support

Participate in promoting the Informatics program to new and incoming students via information and orientation sessions for prospective and incoming students. Participate in the planning and execution of first-year and transfer orientation, Honors Day, and Family Weekend. Participate in the planning and execution of university- and school-wide events, including Gone to Information , research and Capstone Showcases, and Commencement. Assist with graduate program orientation and info sessions as needed.

Serve as back-up to the admissions coordinator in responding to prospective students and other external audiences regarding admissions policies and general program information.

Serve as back-up with course management issues including prerequisites, seat demands, and other related matters in the undergraduate program.

Serve as a resource to School of Information faculty and administration regarding academic policies, procedures, and deadlines. Serve on the Undergraduate Studies Committee.

Professional Development

Explore new models for effective delivery of academic advising. Attend professional development seminars, academic advising events and other campus meetings.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four years of experience working with college students or in an academic counseling capacity.

Experience in developing and maintaining strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders by providing exceptional customer service, technical support, and problem-solving with positivity, tact, and decorum.

Excellent organizational skills. Ability to self-start, learn quickly, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and follow through on tasks. Demonstrated ability to solve problems as they arise.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and concurrent projects.Ability to lead an initiative from planning to execution.

Ability to communicate clearly, work collaboratively with others, and contribute constructively to a team environment.

Demonstrated experience using digital tools to create and improve systems.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree and two years or more years o f experience working with college students or in an academic counseling capacity,

Experience mentoring student leaders.

Knowledge of policies and procedures related to undergraduate academic programs at the University of Texas at Austin.

Experience using UT's NRRECS system, Advisor's Toolkit, IDA 2.0, FaSet , Class Manager, and Canvas or equivalent .

Work Shift

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with four days of work on campus and one day of remote work. Working on-site for five days per week may be required during the new-in-position period. Flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work and non-standard work hours, may be negotiated with the supervisor but are subject to future review should the needs of the workplace change .

Employment Eligibility :

Retirement Plan Eligibility :

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
