I&C Hardware Engineer

The I&C hardware engineer works within the I&C engineering team and is responsible for designing and implementing I&C electronic hardware and software for I&C systems for nuclear power plants. The I&C hardware team has strong interfaces with electronic software design and plant system operations. This role requires technical problem solving, strong hardware design skills and effective communication / collaboration with other teams within the GEH business functions.

Roles and Responsibilities

The hardware and test engineer is responsible for the delivery of high-quality engineering electronic hardware designs and testing strategies. Work scope typically includes the following essential responsibilities :

  • Develop creative solutions and reduce complexity to create accurate and effective solutions for complex engineering problems.
  • Typical hardware activities will include creating a design from requirements and helping define requirements where necessary.
  • Design activities include schematic design, component selection, PCB layout, PLD / FPGA design, performing simulation / module testing, PLD / FPGA code reviews, and integration testing of the design. This also includes design verification of these same activities.
  • Documenting designs by creating design specifications, performing PLD / FPGA code reviews, and writing test reports.
  • Engage customers to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks.
  • Work with the technical leader to establish an effective work plan, including time estimates, schedule estimates, requirements, and work processes.
  • Apply engineering fundamentals and 1st order engineering principles to establish and / or confirm expected performance.
  • Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GE engineering procedures.
  • Manage time effectively to provide quality deliverables within the expected project timeline. Communicate effectively to leadership the status of work activities.
  • Effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Develop system verification and validation test requirements to ensure products meet system specification and performed this in a leadership role.
  • Develop testware, test plans & procedures to implement requirements.
  • Perform testing to support component failure analysis including report generation.
  • Interface with designers and validate their outputs.
  • Generate and verify test documentation.
  • Prepare manual and automated production test procedures for components, assemblies and instruments.
  • Drive compliance with GEH and industry-based systems lifecycle processes, participate in design and technical reviews and promote continuous improvements.
  • Support documentation, analysis and resolution of conditions adverse to quality for services IC control systems through the GEH corrective action program.
