SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Head of Engineering is responsible for leading and managing a cross-functional team of software engineers, developers, and data processing experts across the California and Texas offices. This role owns the design, development, implementation, and support of enterprise applications and platform solutions that power the company’s regulated communications services.

The ideal candidate will drive engineering excellence across web applications, print processing logic, and SaaS systems, while guiding architectural decisions, mentoring engineering talent, and ensuring best practices in software engineering, system design, and operational scalability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Strategy

  • Build, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team across both California and Texas locations.
  • Partner with Product, QA, and Operations to define the engineering roadmap and execution strategy.
  • Establish and uphold engineering best practices including code quality, CI / CD pipelines, automated testing, and documentation standards.
  • Lead architectural and system design reviews to ensure scalability, security, and high performance.
  • Own post-deployment support practices, including production monitoring, incident resolution, and continuous improvement processes.

Software & Systems Development

  • Guide the development of robust, secure full-stack web applications using Java (8–21), Spring Boot, REST APIs, JSP, and SQL / NoSQL databases.
  • Oversee and support backend scripting and logic written in Python, Perl, and Bash within Linux-based environments.
  • Contribute to the design of scalable, high-availability systems for document generation, electronic signatures, workflow automation, and client-facing portals.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are modular, maintainable, and reusable across platforms and projects.

    • Process Improvement & Documentation

  • Implement effective technical documentation standards and promote knowledge-sharing through wikis, team reviews, and training sessions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to troubleshoot production issues and meet established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Champion Agile and Scrum methodologies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.

    • QUALIFICATIONS (required) :

    Education and Experience :

    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

    7+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, including 3+ years in a leadership or team management role.

    Experience working in B2B SaaS or enterprise software environments.

    Preferred experience in financial institutions or other highly regulated industries.

    Backend : Java (8–21), Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, JPA, JSP

    Frontend : HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, TypeScript, React or Vue.js (preferred)

    Databases : MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB

    Scripting & OS : Perl, Python, Bash, Linux / Unix

    CI / CD & DevOps : Git, GitLab / Jenkins, Docker, NGINX, OpenTelemetry

    Monitoring & QA : Datadog, Selenium, JUnit, JMeter, Mockito

    Tools : Jira, Microsoft O365, DocuSign, SQL clients

    Soft Skills

    Proven leadership and mentorship capabilities, including managing hybrid and geographically distributed teams.

    Strong communication skills and ability to translate complex technical vision to cross-functional and non-technical audiences.

    High attention to detail and a passion for process improvement and operational excellence.

    Ability to manage competing priorities and drive alignment in dynamic, fast-paced environments.

    Physical Requirements :

    Able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods.

    Able to communicate effectively across virtual and in-person environments.

    Able to travel occasionally between California and Texas offices, if required.
