Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with children or youth in an educational or outdoor setting.
- Valid Adult and Child First Aid / CPR / AED certificate issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Any appropriate combination of relevant education experience and / or certifications may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in Science Environmental Studies or a closely related field.Experience in environmental education field instruction or naturalist work.KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of local ecosystems environmental issues or outdoor education strategies.Knowledge of HIPAA Public Records Sunshine Law FERPA and other laws / regulations related to student and employee privacy public information and records retention.Strong communication and organizational skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.Ability to work in a natural outdoor environment including parks beaches forests or school grounds under varying weather conditions.Ability to work in extreme conditions of heat and be exposed to insects.Ability to work a flexible schedule.Ability to administer First Aid / CPR / AED as needed for illness injury or life-threatening emergencies per certification training guidelines.Revised : 10 / 07 / 2025
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Typical duties include but are not limited to :Arrive at event locations ahead of scheduled start times to set up and prepare designated areas ensuring student safety and timely event execution.Support environmental education staff and classroom teachers in their efforts to integrating core academic concepts with environmental themes and hands-on field experiences.Provide authentic experiences introducing students to local ecosystems and environmental issues.Model safe respectful behavior and maintain appropriate group management in outdoor settings.Assist in setting up and cleaning up instructional materials equipment and field stations and ensure the proper securing of all school and District property.Report all accidents / injuries to the designated supervisor or administrator.Administer First Aid / CPR / AED as needed for illness injury or life-threatening emergencies per certification training guidelines.Perform other job-related duties as assigned.Maintain positive communication with colleagues community members parents and students to promote an increase in community engagement in education.Support the retention of Highly Effective and Effective employees by exhibiting professionalism and making positive contributions to workplace morale.Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement by valuing learning and making a commitment to quality.Revised : 10 / 07 / 2025
