Atom Computing is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to help design mechanical subsystems and develop fixtures and processes for precision alignment and assembly.
Job Requirements
- Partner with opto-mechanical engineers and physicists to iteratively design mechanics for vacuum systems, optical subsystems, temperature and vibration control, and robust packaging
- Analyze and make recommendations to the engineering team for balancing competing requirements
- Create novel designs and specifications of mechanical systems and subsystems from the component level up to the system level
- Evaluate suitability of design solutions by performing detailed stability, thermal, vibration, and tolerance analysis
- Assist in hands-on assembly and precision alignment of finalized designs
- Capable of lifting and moving objects that weigh up to 25 pounds
Experience & Education
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, advanced degree is a plus5+ years optomechanical design experienceQualifications
Experience with precision mechanism design and kinematic interfacesFamiliarity with designing vacuum chambers and interfacing hardwareExperience with Solidworks, PDM, or equivalent design and data management softwareSkilled in FEA (meshing, modal analysis, thermal analysis, etc.) and corresponding first order analysisRobust packaging of sensitive systems for shipping or extreme environmentsMechanical design for PCBs, wire harnesses, electronic thermal controlHands on experience with optics and opto-mechanical best practices a plusCreative, critical thinking with ability to strategize and solve problems in a dynamic environmentAbility to work effectively in an open, collaborative environmentExcellent communication, listening and people skillsAtom Computing provides a wide variety of perks and benefits, including fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for our employees and their dependents. The base salary range for this position is between $120,000 - $145,000, commensurate with experience. In addition to salary, we offer an annual bonus and equity in the company.
