Position Summary The Environmental Science Research Assistant has two different positions available. One Assistant will collect and analyze earthquake data using MATLAB scripts. A second Assistant will use petrographic microscopy to interpret microstructures in rocks retrieved from subduction zones. The Environmental Science Research Assistant reports to Assistant Professor in Geology. Essential Functions Position 1 :

  • Collect online earthquake data.
  • Archive and analyze earthquake data.
  • Reproduce data using MATLAB-based simulations.

Position 2 :

  • Operate a light microscope.
  • Identify rock minerals.
  • Interpret rock microstructures.

    • Qualifications Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Experience operating a personal computer -Experience collecting and analyzing data.
  • Experience operating a personal computer.
  • Experience with a light microscope.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employees shall adhere to all rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA

    • Required Education Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Engineering, or Mathematics for both positions. Required Work Experience None. Preferred Qualifications Introductory course work in Geology or Environmental Science. Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations None. Work Hours 10 to 20 hours per week Physical Demands None
