Position Summary :

The term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non-academic units. Every attempt is made to assign Graduate Assistants to positions that are directly related to the student’s field of study or that provide the opportunity to develop transferable, professional skills. Graduate Assistantships are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School.

Job Description-Job Duties and / or Responsibilities :

(30%) Serve as a CAP event consultant to a select group of student organizations to provide direct guidance and support to student groups as they plan and implement campus programs. Negotiates contracts with agents, vendors, and performers while maintaining University policies and guidelines as needed for student group programming.

(20%) Responsible for providing support, training, and skill development for student group leaders through workshops as needed on issues related to student group development, university policies, and conflict management.

(10%) Coordinate annual student organization registration process and provide support to the student group management database system (Spartan Connect) and review new student group applications.

(10%) Assist in the planning and implementation of the annual Spartans of Excellence Banquet, a recognition banquet for student leaders and student groups at UNCG.

(10%) Oversee the student group office and storage space application and assignment process and manage the needs of the Student Group Resource Room throughout the year.

(10%) Designs, administers, and responds to research surveys and evaluations to analyze student group leaders’ needs and interests.

(10%) Serve as a liaison between CAP and other campus entities, both on a one-to-one basis and through service on committees. Serve as a member of the Office of Campus Activities and Programs staff and participates in office programs such as Fall Kickoff and Admissions Open Houses; attends CAP and Student Affairs meetings; and other duties as assigned by the Associate Director and / or Director.

PLEASE NOTE : The above outlines the opportunities available for the CAP Graduate Assistants for Programming, however, responsibilities may vary between the first and second year depending on individual interests and office needs.

Work Hours, Environment : Office is open 9 : 00am-5 : 00pm, GA will serve office hours in addition to evenings and weekends required for programming for a total of 20 hours per week.

Additional Terms of Employment : Academic year, August 1st to end of school (until last GA day outlined on graduate school calendar).

Minimum Qualifications :

To be eligible for appointments as a graduate assistant, you must :

• Maintain academic good standing at all times (3.0).
• Be enrolled full-time, which is generally a minimum of 9 credits.
• Make satisfactory progress toward your degree as defined by your academic program and the Graduate School.
• Meet the requirements to be eligible for employment in the U.S.
